On International Women’s Day 2023, QDx Pathology Services is honored to feature Dr. Jaffar’s background and contributions to pathology

Q: Why pathology? What drives your passion to practice pathology or what initially intrigued you about studying and committing to a career in pathology?
A: “It’s genetic and I have the mutation! My mom is a pathologist and so is my sister. I have always loved science. Med school opened many avenues, but I was drawn towards Pathology because it is a science that provides a definitive answer. It helps in narrowing a broad differential diagnosis. I am an amateur artist and find it easy to remember different patterns of disease in tissues. With the help of lab tests and biopsy results,  I can aid the physician in patient care and treatment. I find it to be a very satisfying and rewarding role for me in health care.”

Q: Please share one of your most memorable cases:
A: “Warning: sad case. During my fellowship, I read the colon biopsies on a 34-year-old young man as malignant. I called the physician to see if there was a mistake with the age. The physician confirmed the age and said that his mother had died young from a stomach malignancy. His father had also died of a malignancy. His sibling was a cancer survivor. That was my first case of Lynch Syndrome. The MMR panel came back deficient. I was able to provide critical information to this family that would change his chemotherapy and give him a better chance to fight the cancer.”

NEW YORK — The US Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday granted separate Emergency Use Authorizations for SARS-CoV-2 tests developed by QDx Pathology Services and Biocan Diagnostics.

The QDx SARS-CoV-2 Assay is a RT-PCR-based assay designed to detect the N gene of the virus in nasal swab specimens self-collected using the Cranford, New Jersey-based medical lab’s Qdetect home collection kit or other authorized home collection kits. It is performed using ChromaCode’s HDPCR SARS-CoV-2 assay, which received EUA from the FDA in June, and may only be performed in QDx’s CLIA-certified lab.

Biocan’s Tell Me Fast Novel Coronavirus IgG/IgM Antibody Test is an immunochromatography-based lateral flow assay designed to detect immunoglobulin G and M antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in serum, plasma, and venous whole blood samples. Results are provided within 15 minutes, according to the British Columbia, Canada-based company.

The test may be used by any lab CLIA-certified to perform moderate- or high-complexity tests.

QDx Pathology Services Expands Capabilities and Office Space https://qdxpath.com/blog/qdx-pathology-services-expands-capabilities-and-office-space/ Wed, 28 Sep 2022 19:42:24 +0000 https://qdxpath.com/?p=44741

Edison, N.J. (Apr. 12, 2021)—QDx Pathology Services, a national, independent full-service anatomical and molecular pathology laboratory, is moving all operational components to a new office space in Edison, New Jersey’s Federal Business Center in April, doubling their square footage as a result of QDx’s exponential growth over the past four years. Cushman & Wakefield, a global commercial real estate services firm, served as the broker for the new space.

“Since 2017, our company has grown from under 100 employees to 240 team members and counting,” says Debbie Pacyna, Senior Vice President of Laboratory Services at QDx. “Our new space will undoubtedly improve operations and enhance our stellar customer service wing. The QDx team worked incredibly hard last year to meet the needs of a global pandemic while continuing to serve our core customers, and this stunning new space is a testament to their dedication and drive.”

QDx’s new office will occupy almost 40,000 square feet, a substantial increase from the previous lab’s 20,000 square feet, and will feature a total of six brand new laboratories with expanded technology. These labs will be dedicated to various pathological practices including anatomical, molecular and next-generation-sequencing. Thanks in part to the lab’s larger footprint and an “innovation room,” in which staff pathologists will refine and develop products, several brand-new molecular tests will be available to clients during 2021.

QDx redesigned the space with both clients and employees in mind. Team members will enjoy an innovation room, mother’s room, meditation room, locker rooms with showers, an expanded break room and large dining hall.

QDx Pathology Services, founded in 2006, is led by M. Nasar Qureshi, M.D., Ph.D., a recognized leader in the industry for diagnostic excellence. He completed his professional training at Tulane University School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Hospital, Beth Israel Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital in virology and immunology. Dr. Qureshi specializes in clinical and anatomical pathology.

QDx offers COVID-19 tests, molecular UTI panel, comprehensive gastrointestinal solutions, uropathology, women’s health testing as well as hereditary cancer testing.

QDx’s new office is located at 300 Columbus Circle in Edison, New Jersey at the Federal Business Center, located near the intersection of I-95 and I-440. To learn more or contact QDx, visit qdxpath.com.
